    There are many functions that don’t require any special software on your server, but encoding videos does require FFMPEG or LIBAV. If you have zero understanding of codec stuff then I suggest you don’t try to install FFMPEG. You’ll need at least a VPS anyway. A shared host that doesn’t already have FFMPEG will not allow you to install it. Unless you have a really strong need to encode videos on your server, it’s usually easier to just do it on your own computer using a program like Handbrake.
