Installed and activated the plugin, and…..nothing. Site still working fine, but I see no Mailchimp activity. I am on shared hosting. I am also somewhat down with the flu/cold something nasty so not really with it and maybe have missed something.

Now comes the really dumb question….how do I tell which PHP version the server is running? (cPanel)

    Hi Sean,

This usually comes down to any (or multiple) of the following reasons.

    – No API key is set in MailChimp for WP > MailChimp.
    – You’re running an older version of MailChimp for WordPress, version 3.0 or higher is required.
    – Your server is running a very outdated version of PHP. MailChimp Activity requires at least PHP 5.3 or higher. This plugin can help in showing your PHP version.
    – If you see the widget but it’s stuck at “loading..”, there should be a JavaScript error in your browser console telling us what exactly went wrong.

I’ve just added this to the MailChimp Activity FAQ as well. ??

Hope that helps. If not, let me know!

    Hi Danny,

Thanks for getting back so quick. The only thing I’m really suspecting is an older version of PHP, I had another plugin mention that a while ago, but said plugin worked anyway, forgot which one it was though. For the rest, the Mailchimp API and the rest of the site (all things WordPress anyway) is up to date and seems to be working fine.

I see no widget at all. Another really dumb question: where on the dashboard is it supposed to appear?

I am actually about to move the site to a new cloud server, perhaps that will have a newer version of PHP. Will post back if that works.

    Hi Sean,

It could also be that you have to activate the widget’s visibility in your “Screen Options” at the top of your screen (when on the dashboard page). Here’s a screenshot to elaborate.

Hmm…visibility of the widget is checked, yet I still don’t see the widget itself. Just moved to a new server running PHP 5.5.30. What do you suppose it is?

That is so weird, as that means the widget gets registered successfully. Are you sure it’s not there on the page? Maybe it’s collapsed, then you have to click the downward pointing arrow (or the title) to expand it again..

I am such an…..need to keep this discussion clean. I have been looking for it in the bar across the top. It was there on the dashboard home page all along, just not on the top bar, it was way down at the bottom of the page, under all the other plugins which were all expanded…some scrolling was required, which on a Mac track pad isn’t a problem ?? I just had to, umm, scroll.

    sorry, my bad ??

LOL, thank you Sean! Glad you figured it out.

PS. Should you have a quick minute to spare, a plugin review here on www.ads-software.com would make us quite happy. ??
