    Hi,

This plugin is exactly what I was looking for, however, upon installing it, I don’t seem to be able to make use of any functions. For instance, under Ticker Text, I can’t add even a single message; the + button doesn’t work (or, rather I can just add one message with 1 link, but that’s it; as the + button doesn’t seem to be adding anything, there’s no way I can add another message with a different link).
And from there, only Ticker Mode – Scroll is enabled. When I click in Rotate or List, it simply takes me to a blank page on my site.
The Scroll Speed doesn’t change no matter the value I enter there.
Tick Spacing is, of course, not usable as I can’t add more than one message.

I was wondering if you might have any idea why this plugin doesn’t seem to be functioning on my site. I use Atahualpa theme, and it looks to me that the plugin might not me compatible with the theme. If it’s not a theme issue, then what else could it be?

I’d hate to let this plugin go, therefore, I am hoping you could help me with the issues described above.

    Thanks in advance,

    Vince

It sounds like you have a jQuery error in a script running in your dashboard which is breaking my plugins functionality. This could be stemming from another plugin or possibly your theme. I assure you that my plugin does work.

To check if it’s a plugin disable all other plugins (then test mine to see it working properly) and then re-enable each one by one (testing my plugin after every activation). Once you activate another plugin and mine stops working, that is the plugin causing the issue.

If none of the plugins are causing the issue, switch your theme to a default theme (TwentyTwelve) and test my plugin. If it works, then the issue is stemming from your theme.

Alternately, if you know how to view your browser console, you can open that and you’ll probably see some errors popping up which would direct you to the source of the issue.

Let me know what you find out.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I tried deactivating the plugins first, and it turns out that the plugin called EasyRotator for WordPress by By DWUser.com is the culprit. Your plugin freezes when this one is active.
Having said that, I also tried your plugin on a different site, where I don’t have the EasyRotator installed but do have the same theme – Atahualpa. And, it looks like the theme is also not very compatible with your plugin. While I was able eventually to add messages and links, I couldn’t get the scroll speed to work faster – it would drag forever regardless of the values entered.

I yet have to try the plugin on a site with a different theme, but the bottom line is I won’t be changing the theme on the site I wanted to implement the plugin.

Let me know if you would be willing to look into the compatibility issues, for both the EasyRotator plugin and Atahalpa theme. If not, I guess I won’t be able to use your plugin.

On a separate not, I was wondering if the links assigned to text messages are nofollow. And, if not, how do we make them nofollow.

    Thanks again for your support.

I can take a look at your site. I’ll need a url to visite and also probably access to your admin if you want to send info through this form: https://www.metaphorcreations.com/contact/

The links are not setup as nofollow. I’ll get back to you on the best way to accomplish that.

You are right about the Easy Rotator being the issue. This is the error I get when I am on the Ditty News Ticker edit page:

Uncaught ReferenceError: edCanvas is not defined post-new.php:998

I’m guessing the script for that plugin presumes there is a content editor on the page, and since there isn’t one with DNT, it’s triggering an error because it’s trying to use reference that object. There isn’t anything more I can do for it, but you should contact that plugin’s author and let them know about the error.

That’s the only error I see right now. But, it is possible there is still one in the theme that’s just not being triggered yet, since the other plugin is erring out first. If you can get the author to fix that issue I’ll have a look at your site again if things still aren’t working.

The Easy Rotator plugin is no longer an issue: the plugin owners kindly made changes to their plugin to make Ditty News compatible.
The issues I have had while working on the edit page of the plugin in FireFox and IE browsers are now resolved: at least, we can now enter and save text and links.
While those are great improvements, the plugin is still barely usable as The Scroll Mode is extremely slow in FireFox, and only a little faster in EI. The speed setting is somehow not working in both browsers. The Rotate Mode is not functional in both browsers as well.
While I can live with the slow scroll speed I still need the links to be “no-follow”. I have requested this feature, however it’s not clear when it will become available.
I was eager to try this plugin, but I guess I will have to wait until future versions.

Vince, please check out the modes on https://dittynewsticker.com/ditty-news-ticker/
Do they function differently than on your site?
And have you tried using a different computer and testing?

After looking into your site I found no issues with the rotate mode. Everything worked fine when I tested it out. I do know that the IE scrolling isn’t quite as good as other browsers, but I found no issues with the scroll speed settings either.

I’m not sure what else I can do for you as I did this testing in your Dashboard and on your site and everything functioned properly for me. I’m not sure if you have some sort of browser extension or some other computer specific issue that is causing you to have issues, so please test on a different computer.

Also, please try switching your theme to something else along with disabling other plugins. I know you said if there is a conflict with your theme you wouldn’t use my plugin because you need to use your theme. But…

Until you try that and still have the issues you mention there isn’t anything more I can do… and leaving comments about my plugin not working is unfair to me until you can prove that the issue is not stemming from your theme.

I have added the nofollow option. Please update your plugin to check it out.

    Joe,
Sorry I wasn’t able to look into your responses above until now.

Basically I gave up on your plugin because, obviously, it’s not ready to work out of the box on all themes and browsers as most other plugins I have used in the past 3 years (and I used a lot!) do.

Following your request I tested the plugin on a different theme (twenty-eleven) and on a different website on the same machine and in two browsers – FireFox and EI. I got the same issues, though! The scroll speed won’t change under any circumstances (it’s faster in EI, though) and the Rotate mode works in just one mode. I also disabled all plugins except yours on this website to see if that would make any difference – it didn’t.

So, now we know that it’s not the theme. You can keep blaming my pc and the browsers, but I don’t really see how the browsers might be responsible for such performance. I am running the latest FireFox and IE versions, and I only have a few extensions in FireFox that never caused any issues.

I can’t test the plugin on other machines because I am not publishing the ticker. By the way, I tested No Follow feature and, guess what, it’s not working! When I ticked this option off and updated the ticker, I got e quick message saying ” Loading Panels Failed”, and there was the error number that I didn’t grab. When I checked the page source of the preview page, the links had no “rel-nofollow” attribute attached to them!

Joe, I understand that this plugin works for you on Mac and Chrome but it simply doesn’t on my HP Compaq and FireFox/EI browsers. I am sorry to say this (particularly considering the effort I put into this to make it work for me) but there are unusual number of conditions the plugin might work under, and I simply can’t spend more time on it. The rating I gave you is fair and reflects my experience. I am not saying it’s not working at all, I am just saying that some of the functions of the plugin I like it for do not work for me, and therefore, I can’t use it.

If there is anything else you’d like to suggest to make it work for me, please do. Otherwise, I’ll wait until you do a complete overhaul, which this plugin probably needs.

I have just updated the plugin to the latest version, and everything seems to be working now, at least in FireFox: the scroll speed is fully adjustable and the Rotate Mode seems to be rotating the messages as it should. Also, I double checked the “rel-nofollow” option, and I am happy to confirm it’s working as well.

I don’t know what you’ve done Joe, but the plugin works just fine for the moment. Congrats.

    Minor issues:
    1. Is it possible to center the scroll? If I set the width to 700px, can I center it? I tried to center the code on the page, like I would do with an image, but to no avail. The scrolls still starts from the right (but not from the far right) and goes into the far left corner (“left direction”).
    2. The “up” and “down” scroll direction don’t seem to be working for me.

    Plugin Author metaphorcreations

    (@metaphorcreations)

    1. You need to center text by using css: “text-align: center”. I’m assuming you have multiple lines of text on each tick that you want to align to the center?

    2. Will you check out this page: https://dnttest.metaphorcreations.com/sample-page/
I have all scroll directions and all rotate modes setup on the page. Let me know any of those are not working when you view them. I do not have the rotat modes set to auto-rotate, so you’ll have to click the buttons. Also, I do know that even with the updated scrolling IE doesn’t handle multiple scrolling items as well as other browsers, it’s a little more jerky.

    3. Are the issue you run into all on the front-side of your site, or do you have issues in the admin as well?

    4. Can you please provide me with a public link to a page where you are seeing the issues, and please provide details pertaining to each issue?

    Thanks!

I tried your plugin and it really doesn’t do what I’m trying to do. All I want to do is have my content-wrapper scroll up extremely slow and the content-container scroll up at a slower rate than my content page. The background would stay stationary and the main content page scroll normally. I haven’t been able to find any plugin that does that. It’s somewhat of a parallax effect but it’s not a one page theme. I’m going to put PSD images on a transparent background on both layers under the main content layer and text only on the top layer. Any help would be greatful! If you know of something that would adjust the scrolling rate of speed of the content layers that would be awesome.

I didn’t include my email address in the first post
