Notification of Credit Card being declined

We are having a bit of an issue when credit cards are being declined. Neither we nor the buyer gets any notification. The order is just never processed and it takes manual investigation (usually after the buyer asks where their order is) that we then can see the card was declined. Ideally, the buyer would be notified when the card is declined. Does anyone have a solution to this? Or are we the only ones with this issue? We are using the Authorize.net extension.
