    Hello Voltronik,

i am reoppening a post you closed due to my inactivity. Sorry I could not come back earlier, all is a bit hectic in Paris right now…

I have a problem with New Comments notifications : they don’t come through although my other notifications do

I have unchecked the settings notification system, and I am only using the [comment_author]shortcode for the time being.
The test email comes through, but I receive nothing at all when commenting on a page.
Any idea what I could miss ??

    Thanks for your help.

And then you answered this :

    Hi Oazar,
    Thanks for your message.

Have you installed the Email Log plugin and checked to see if the comment notification is logged in there?

If it is, then it might be an issue with sending email out via your server or Akismet is stopping it from doing it’s thing.

Can you check this and get back to me?

    Thanks,
    Jack

    My answer :

No I did not try the email log plugin as ALL notifications (but this one) come through, the email test come through, the native wordpress comments notifications come through if I check the settings, so I don’t think this a mail or server or spam problem…

Moreover I have another plugin for mail and everything runs smoothly (contact forms, other notifications…)….

So wit thhe email logs, what appears is that a notification is sent only to the post/page author. This appears in email logs (and I receive it),but nothing else.
the notification was set to send this comment to all contributors (mail was not sent, and not received)

I forgot to say that my host has several plugins that are activated all the time for secuity reasons, that don’t appear in the plugins list in the website back office. But theu have not stopped any mail up to now…

Well jan, I understand your point of view, but it happens from time to time taht a plugin dev needs to login to understand the problem and how to solve it, and I never had any problem up to now..

Moreover, i have a clone of my website, so Voltronik, if he needs and wishes to, can log in the clone, not the real website..
So I don’t understand really what the problem is if both Voltronik and I wish him to connect ..Who is going to tap on his shoulder really and why ?

    Hi Oazar,
It appears I’m coming up against a few bugs when trying to reproduce this.
I’ll get those fixed first and then get back to you on my findings.

In the meantime, can you test a variety of other scenarios for this notification and see if you can narrow down when the notification breaks?

This is so not on topic, but here goes.

but it happens from time to time taht a plugin dev needs to login to understand the problem and how to solve it, and I never had any problem up to now..

Not here they don’t. An author who does that here repeatedly risks getting all their plugins removed by the WordPress Plugins team. I am 100% positive that the author does not want that.

As to who taps them on the shoulder? That would be forum moderators such as myself. Additional taps would be from the plugins team. Here’s what is the stock reply to authors when they ask.

<INSERT AUTHOR NAME HERE> I’ve deleted your offer to login to your user’s site. I’m am 100% sure you mean well but please never ask for credentials on these forums.

Now for the why: The internet is a wonderful place full of very nice people and a few very bad ones. I’m sure everyone here is very nice however, by giving some ones keys to your house you are trusting they wont steal anything. Likewise the person who takes the keys is now responsible for the house FOREVER.

If something was to go wrong, then you the author may well legally become liable for damages, which they would not normally have been as their software is provided without warranty.

Please be aware that repeatedly asking for credentials will result in us asking you to repeatedly stop before escalating up to the plugins team.

All this is interesting but not an issue as I know this plugin author understands. ??

If you need more than the level of support offered in these forums then you’ll need to take it somewhere else such as hiring someone via https://jobs.wordpress.net/

    Hi Jack,

Ok I’ll be waiting Jack, thanks for your help.

Well as to my other tests, since I desactivated all plugins, I can’t imagine just now how I could narrow more. It seems it is broken to start with…

But if you are thinking of othe scenari you would like me to test, please tell me so !

    Hi Oazar,
Can you confirm that you’re using the latest versions of WordPress and BNFW?

Can you also send a screenshot of your notification settings for this notification?

    Thanks,
    Jack
