I rely on notifications to let me know when a copyeditor has posted a comment on the backend of a post. On August 16, 2016 I stopped receiving notifications (even though as an admin I am supposed to get all notifications.) I checked with my hosting company and they said it is not them. I deleted and re-installed the plugin. Nothing seems to work. Can you help?

  • Hrm. Tough one to diagnose without more information. Did anything else change on August 16? Did you update your WordPress version, activate a new plugin, activate a new theme?

*edit: Also, are other folks on your site still receiving emails?

AHA! Yes! August 16 is the date that WP version 16 “Pepper” was released… and the last day that my notifications worked. Apparently they stopped right after the update. I have not added any plugins. No one is receiving emails. I wonder if others are having this issue.

Hrm. Someone had a similar issue with notifications I think around the same time.

    I wonder if it’s the same problem…

Any chance you or you’re hosting company would be able to grab the error logs for your WordPress installation?

Also, maybe give the plugin I mentioned in that post a shot and see if it fixes it*? If it does, would definitely mean the issues are related (possibly identical).

Also, what hosting company do you use? Wonder if the person with the similar sounding issue uses the same hosting company…

*Just need to set a valid email address after activating that plugin

Okay, thanks. I installed the WP Mail From II plugin and have asked my staff to write a comment so I can see if they are working. Meanwhile: my host is Bluehost, if that helps. I will write back shortly to let you know if the plugin works. Thanks again.

Ah, it is working again! I’m delighted. The WP Mail From II plugin did the trick.

Great! I reached out to the other user having a similar issue. Would be great to know if that user is also using Bluehost.

*edit: WordPress changed how it sets the “To” field on emails with the most recent version. So far you two folks are the only one’s I’ve heard from who are having this issue but haven’t done much research into whether this issue is affecting other WordPress users. That plugin just explicitly sets that “To” field instead of letting WordPress try and set it (though I’m guessing you already caught on to that as you seem like a sharp cookie).

I’m having the same trouble again– not receiving notifications :/
