Notify all (or a subset) of users/members when a comment is first posted

Well – technically it is of course possible to create a kind of memership registration.

However this would require a lot of work to implement user registration including profile handling, password manegement etc. and not just a simple subscription mechanism as it is at the moment.

Since I only maintain this plugin in my spare time I don’t have time to work on that for free, sorry. But the source is available at Github on https://github.com/arnowelzel/comment-reply-email-notification, so anyone is welcome to contribute.

Can your plugin notify wp Users, regardless of role (or membership), when someone posts a comment to a post?

In short: no.

If a user checks to box to get notified about answers to his comment, the plugin only that subscription as meta data to the comment. When the comment gets an answer, the plugin checks, if the comment has a subscription and sends the notification to e-mail-address in the comment. A user can also decide to remove the individual subscription with a link sent as part of the e-mail. In that case the meta data gets removed and thus the subscription is deleted again.

There is no connection at all to WP users. Eventhough comments might be connected to a user, the plugin will not care since only the comment meta data is relevant.

just a fyi – I am trying to get all comments posted to an Events Calendar event emailed to user/members that RSVPed to event. I have them looking into a solution but was hoping i could find something.
