    Hi,

I followed the directions in this forum to create the child theme and it was really easy. The reason I wanted to create a child’s theme is because every time WP updates, a php file goes missing. Today after I created the child theme and went into Appearance -> Editor to edit the file, all the php files are missing except a style.css . Do I copy and ftp all the files from the parent theme to the child theme? Or do I edit the .php in the parent theme and everything will be fine?

Neither. You should copy only the PHP file(s) you want to change from the parent theme to the child theme, then edit the child theme’s copy.
