Okay I have downloaded PHP, MsSQL and WordPress (Zip File). I am running a Mac Os X 10.3 and a powerbook G4. Now what do I do to start editing? I tried opening the files but they wouldn’t open. What do I do?

Well, you have to set up a local server. My suggestion would be that you go to apachefriends.org and download the XAMPP distro for MacOSX. This enables all parts of the server (apache, php, mysql) to work together from the beginning, which is not always the case when you download and attempt to install them separately.

Once you have an operational apache server set up, then you should check back for help getting wp to work with same.

I remember Mac gurus always recommend this tutorial:

Oooh…. bless you! I’ve been looking for that since I posted (around dinner!) – couldn’t find it (and is anyone besides me having trouble with search tonight? I keep getting a 404….)

Works fine for me (I mean the search).
Luckily I remembered the word “zealots” > “maczealots” – sometimes the otherwise totally useless Old Greek studies pay off, LOL

Could you give me the direct link for XAMPP distro for MacOSX? I couldn’t find it.

https://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-macosx.html – probably one in German as well….

MAMP is a more “Mac-like” alternative to XAMPP for Mac: https://www.mamp.info/

Ok I did download XAmpp, and I ran it, but what now? I tried opening everything else but it wouldn’t work, please help me. Sorry for all the questions.

You need to read the install etc. stuff on apachefriends. I’m not at all sure what the differences may be between installing and using the win version, the linux one, and the mac one.

[IIRC (I’ve been using the win version for 5 years or so….), you need to change some settings (such as server root and document root) in the httpd.conf file first, then run the .bat files for apache and mysql. But really, this is totally unrelated to wp, and you’ll have to read stuff on apachefriends’ site, access the fora there, etc.]

Raghavsuri, try MAMP, you may find it easier to install and setup.

“MAMP is installed in the typical Mac fashion: very easily. … You can install Apache, PHP and MySQL without starting a script or having to change any configuration files!”
