• On my site, at the end of each post where it displays the number of comments, this number is not being updated when comments are actually there. It’s like there’s some kind of caching going on, but I’m not using any caching plugin. What could be causing this? An exact copy of my theme is working normally on my test server.

  • In WordPress there *is* caching going on. If that’s the problem, you may delete whats in the cache directory, and see if it helps.
I visited your blog and made a dummy comment and you are right of course.

I deleted the files inside the cache folder, and that didn’t do anything, so I deleted the whole directory, and that didn’t change anything either. What should the permissions be set to?

It’s really frustrating that there are no option in the Admin section to control this or turn it off (or even anything that mentions that it’s happening at all!).

The number is updated when I delete a comment, however. Now my most recent post is not even showing a link to the comments, since I deleted one comment from that post. Arg.

I bet you’re running Spam Karma 2… Just a guess, but if so, make sure you have the latest version if running wp 2.x

I was running Spam Karma 2.0 reloaded. I deactivated it and things didn’t go back to normal.

Ok, I got it taken care of. Here’s the solution, if anyone else has this problem:
After installing Spam Karma 2.1, I had to manually update the comment_count field using phpmyadmin to reflect the actual number of comments. That takes care of it.
