Numerical Nav possible for photoblog???

How would I create beneath a photo entry a numerical navigation that shows the number of photos in the category, and which one is displaying? I’m not sure which tags would do this, or if there’s a plugin that would work …
ie.
<photo>previous 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 next
