• I need an API to run the wordpress stats plugin.
I attempted to login to get my API using my wordpress username and password I use to access my dashboard. username admin and password created for me on install.

It wouldnt log me in … So I created a new wordpress.com login. Copied the API from this, when I used it on my blog installation I was told the usernames dont match.

How can I obtain an API that relates to my blog?

  • Set up an account on wordpress.com to get an API key.

I set up an account on wordpress.com using an email address with the same domain as I have my blog on. But when I use the API from that profile I get:

    WordPress.com Stats
The API key “99999999999” belongs to the WordPress.com account “mynewaccount”. If you want to use a different account, please enter the correct API key.

How do I get the API that relates to the blog I am using?

    Same here.
Actually I pushed it a bit and hit a wall: the Stats from says “If you want to use a different account, please enter the correct API key.” with a link. But the link just points right back to that same page.
Work-around: deactivating and re-activating reset the key so I could enter the one I wanted.

    nice work folks!

(Sure wish there was a Reply function here.)

I spoke too soon; no joy.
I still get “WordPress.com Stats needs attention: please enter an API key or disable the plugin.”
When I read “let other WP users see your stats” I backed away.
    But that’s just an option.
So I went ahead and added it to WP.com. Like I should have from the start.
