• Hello,
Let me start by saying how much I really enjoy working with OceanWP! Unfortunately I have an issue that’s been going on for a few weeks now. I have searched everywhere possible for a solution but no one else seems to have had this same issue, so my last resort is to post here. Fingers crossed someone can help me as it’s driving me and my client crazy.

I am using OceanWP with Elementor Pro, but these settings are in OceanWP, not in the Elementor editor.

    Here’s what happens:
In Pages > Edit, under OceanWP Settings > Title, I have set most of my pages to use a background image for the page title. Each page that has this has it’s own image.

For some reason, at random times, the background images won’t show up at all. Instead the titles appear on a grey or black background. Sometimes, the images seem to cache, so that the image you see on one page, now appears on them all, instead of switching to the custom background image set for that page.

Then all of a sudden they are working correctly. There’s no rhyme or reason. Clearing cache has no effect on it. They will work fine for a while, then all of a sudden, they freak out again sometime later.

The first few weeks the site was live, they acted normally. Then all of a sudden this weird thing began happening.

Refreshing, trying different browsers and/or devices does nothing to fix it. It happens for me, my client, and other various people I’ve had check on it. Sometimes, this lasts an entire day, sometimes just a few hours or a few minutes.

I am using the latest WP version 4.9.7, all plugins are updated. My best guess is that there is a plugin conflict, but why then would it just happen randomly and not all the time?

  • Hi Marianney, in this kind of situation it would be necessary to consult the consoleweb of a page which displays the problem it will indicate you an error which should make it possible to better define what is happening. On the other hand it would be nice to tell us which PHP version is used, the size of the allocated PHP memory. Random error can occur for lack of memory precisely.

Ah ok, that’s good to know. Thank you for responding so quickly. It looks like the site is using PHP version: 5.6.30. Memory limit it 768.

The site was only developed 2 months ago, so perhaps it would be safe to update to 7.2? And is 768 enough memory?

I checked the console and when the images are displaying, there are no errors. Right now, the site is showing the same background image on every page instead of that pages’ unique image. It also shows the image on pages where I have not set a background image for the title, like this page: https://aeromatico.com/product/aeromatico-automatic-composter/ There are no errors when that happens either. The strange thing is, when I inspect the header, it has a background image set to the .page-header class. And it’s set to !important. (see screenshot 1st image: https://imgur.com/a/a2MC79B) Not sure where that is being set from. I searched the custom CSS and it’s not there. I cannot figure out where that is coming from since the other class is also centered-minimal-page-header.

The General > Page Title settings are also set to Centered Minimal.

Ok and now at this moment as I am writing this, the images are not displaying, however the only errors are related to fontawesome. (see screenshot 2nd image)

This is really maddening as it seems to display different things depending on when you are viewing it and what browser or device you are using. It’s completely random.

    Hello,

I’m having the same problem too.

The background image after updating the page is lost. But in the general settings it works, but it’s all the same image for all the pages.

I updated my theme today. Can it be something wrong in this new version ?

Hello, on what browser are you?

    (@marianney)

If you’re asking me, I am using Chrome, Firefox and Safari as well as mobile browsers and each one shows different results depending on the day and time, which is all completely random.

First, upgrade to PHP 7.2, even if it is not the problem, it is much better to use PHP 7, then, have you tried to disable all your plugin except OCean Extra to see if there is a conflict?

I just received this error in Safari on the page I spoke of earlier (https://aeromatico.com/product/aeromatico-automatic-composter/)

[Error] Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 () (https://aeromatico.com/wp-content/plugins/elementor/assets/lib/swiper/swiper.min.js.map, line 0)

    (see screenshot #3 here: https://imgur.com/a/a2MC79B)

You’ll notice too that the image has now changed to something else, as compared to screenshot #1.

I am disabling plugins now, but I should probably not disable Elementor and Elementor Pro should I?

I will go ahead and update PHP now.

    (@oceanwp)

No, no need to disable Elementor and Elementor Pro.

Not sure if this has anything to do with anything, but I keep getting weird errors when I try to update plugins today. They update fine after I refresh the page, but at first I get a message similar to this one that I just received when I added a new plugin called PHP Compatibility Checker. It took me several tries to install it.

Error: SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected character at line 1 column 1 of the JSON data
    Response: <br />
    <b>Warning</b>: array_merge(): Argument #2 is not an array in <b>/home/aeromatico/public_html/wp-includes/load.php</b> on line <b>63</b><br />
    {“status”:false,”count”:0,”total”:false,”activeJob”:false,”version”:false,”onlyActive”:false,”results”:false}

Anyway, just wanted to provide as much info as I can.

Unfortunately, deactivating all plugins did not help the situation. And updating PHP did not help either. ??

Ok and this is weird. I made a video on how it’s behaving at the moment. https://www.useloom.com/share/3b222112220b4053917807f19d570e00

Hello, yes indeed, very very weird ??
Can you open a pre-purchase ticket on oceanwp.org? I will ask you for more information.

    (@marianney)

Thank you, I just opened one.

I am having the same problem with background image sometimes not showing at all, or showing the same image in all pages.

Has there been a resolution you can share?

I am on a brand new development environment with php 7.2, and latest versions on WordPress, OceanWP, Elementor and no weird plugins.
