odd files from upgrade left over

  • hello –

    i see some strange new files in my wp-content directory that all are in this new directory:

    /wp-content/upgrade/wordpress-5.4.1-partial-0-lQ1ipV/

    it’s tempting to just rename them and see if anything stops working, but i wanted to bounce this off the WP wizards first.

    thoughts? suggestions?

  • That’s the WordPress file that was downloaded and installed when you “upgraded”. Normally this should be deleted automatically by WordPress after a successful upgrade.

    The “upgrade” folder is where WordPress temporarily downloads new versions of WordPress, themes and plugins during an upgrade.

    It should be safe to delete this file and anything else you find in the “upgrade” folder (provided some upgrade is not in progress at the time!!!)
