Last night I noticed that social proxy sent out a bunch of tweets that didn’t relate to any post I had made – went out about eight times within a couple of minutes, as follows:

    “Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:19.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/19.0: 94.23.238.222 techblawg.ca/?p=5726”

Clicking on the link takes me to a non-existent page (i.e. I get a 404). Each has a different number at the end.

Any ideas? Might this be a bug? Anyone else experience it? Might it be a security thing, either with the plugin or my blog? Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

  • My best guess: you have a plugin that is doing some sort of login/request limiting and storing that content as a custom post type or similar. You also have broadcasting enabled by default, and the way the plugin is storing content and calling WP routines, it is triggering Social’s broadcast feature.

This is all a SWAG since I have no info about your site.

Not for nothing, but I just found this post because I did a Google search on that IP address – 94.23.238.222 – which I think has been instrumental in getting my site temporarily shut down by the host due to SQL calls.

ANOTHER Google search suggests the IP is the source for a comment-spammer. I don’t know whether that sheds any light on your own issue or not, but it’s pretty weird.

Thanks gents – appreciate the input. Looks like someone managed to hack my sad little blog.

Just as an aside – Alex – I’m a big fan of your work and just wanted to express my appreciation.
