• I have been having problems with oembed links from the same site note working since the 4.5.2 update. We noticed this on new pages only but I have just deleted the oembed cache using a plugin (as recommended elsewhere) and this broke all the oembeds.

Note that I do still seem to be able to embed Youtube links, so it seems to be a problem with site as an oembed provider rather a problem on the receiving end.

These were working fine before the recent update. Has anyone any ideas what might be going on?

    Hi everyone,

I forgot to add that I have checked and wp-embed.min.js is on the pages, so that isn’t an issue. I have tried to embed other wordpress sites and these don’t embed either, so it doesn’t seem to be a problem with embedding your own site into itself, more like a problem with the general WordPress oembed system or how that is being interpreted on my site.

I have also tried this on other sites now and am seeing the same problem.

Any ideas on this anyone? It’s driving me nuts! Some sites seem to work and others don’t and there doesn’t seem to be anything that I can see that is common to them all.

    Hi Funkygorilla,

I am having the same problem. I have been searching for a while on the fix and still cannot find it. I sometimes dont understand why developers cannot admit they have messed up. I think it was showing on some websites cause the server cache must not be dumped yet.

Please let me know if you know any thing about this fix.

    Hi Ronniej6987,

I’m still try to get through this one! Could you tell me what theme your site uses? I’ve seen a few reports about switching themes, then going back again. I use a child theme on top of twenty twelve and was wondering if you had something similar? I’ve tried going to just twenty twelve (as I don’t have any other themes installed) and that doesn’t work, but I’m just wondering whether I should try adding a theme, then switching to it and back again!

    Cheers
    Simon

After switching themes and all the other things that we were supposed to do, all with no luck, I noticed that the latest WordPress update included a fix for Oembed and I can confirm that it now seems to work.

I occasionally seem to need to add the ‘[embed] [/embed]‘ shortcode around links to get it to recognise it, but apart from that the problem seems to be solved for the moment at least.

    Hi Funkgorilla,

Thanks for your update. I am using Genesis theme with Foodie Child Theme. I even asked StudioPress and they were like it is all wordpress not them. I will add the shortcode and give that a try.

    Thanks

Considering the following reasons for the oEmbed problem, I worked on the following and found that problem still persists. I hope this would help us to get rid of the problem.

    1. Internet Speed (Tried with slower (100 kbps) and faster speed (3mbps)) [Speed is not a problem]
    2. Theme Support [Theme is not a problem]
    3. TinyMCE plugin (Advance and Normal) [Not a problem]
    4. Hosting [Not a problem]

The point I was not able to check is version of PHP.
This is the only point I am considering for not working of the oEmbed system.

Also reading above reports, it seems that PHP version is also not a problem.
