Hello there! I am big fun of Yoast SEO and I am using the free version on almost all of my websites. Now at one of the websites I have faced a problem. I have like 600 posts with 600 different galleries and the website is hosted at WordPress (Photo Gallery by Supsystic is the gallery plugin).

The open-graph option at Yoast is enabled. Now here comes the strange part. When I check the source code of several posts there is OG: Image present. When I check any other completely random there is not OG:Image line. I have tried to use the same settings for the gallery (imported from one where is everything fine) and the problem has not been fixed. Some of the posts have featured images and they show OG:Image tag while some does not have featured image but still show the tag.

I have tried adding some functions in the functions.php file, used various plugins but nothing worked. I have even tried disabling plugins, installing health checker but I still see the error message: “The ‘og:image’ property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags” when I perform a Facebook fetch. Also, when I add image in the post outside of the gallery where the OG Image is not present the code become visible in the source code. For some reason it does not read the contents inside the gallery as it seems.

But why only on several posts when the settings are same for all of the galleries? I can share the url with any of the support and if anyone can help me I will be more than grateful. I want to share the Facebook posts with specific image (or first image in the content as featured) but currently can’t. I have spend like 2 days trying to figure it out.

P.S I am using the latest version of WordPress, Yoast and php.

    Hi @lenoresa

Would it be possible for you to share with us 1 example URL where the og:image tag is outputting as expected, and 1 example URL where it isn’t, even though both are set up in the exact same way?

We’re not familiar with how you uploaded the featured images with the Photo Gallery by Supsystic plugin, but we do know that the og:image has a series of hierarchies as to where it gets the relevant image from. If you’ve set a specific image under the Facebook section of the Social tab of the Yoast SEO meta box when editing a specific post or page, it should use that primarily. Then try to fall back to the featured image, and then a prominent image in the actual content itself, and then from the other fallbacks.

You can learn more about it here – https://developer.yoast.com/features/opengraph/functional-specification#conditional-tags

Hello Michael Tina! Thank you for your reply. Is it possible to send somehow the urls since I don’t want them publicly placed? If there is no other way I will place them in the next message.

    Hi @lenoresa,

Sorry for the long waited reply.

No, there is no way to send us messages privately here on the www.ads-software.com forums. The only other option would be personal support over email, which comes with our Premium products over at Yoast.com.

So if you can share some URLs and/or screenshots here we can further troubleshoot. Maybe a next step too would be to temporary switch to a default theme of WordPress to see if the OG would be outputted in there. It might be a (child)theme issue as well.

Hello Jeroen Rotty! I still haven’t fixed it unfortunately. I have just tried setting the default og image and the posts that were without OG:image tag got the tag immediately. However, this is not a solution in my case since there will be only one image. Here is a screenshot of one of the urls where this is happening https://imgur.com/a/hVAN33T. As I mentioned above it happens only to a specific posts.

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Hi @lenoresa

Upon checking that example URL that you provided, the og:image in the page source is:

    /wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Only-Crochet-Patterns-Part-26-36.jpg

Is this the default or fallback social image you’ve set in search appearance for your posts?

Otherwise, if you were to edit that post specifically and go to the Yoast SEO meta box and then the Social tab and then the Facebook section, could you check if you’ve set a specific image for it? Could you provide us a screenshot of what you’ve set as the image?

    Hi,

This thread has been marked as resolved due to lack of activity by original poster.

If you are not the original poster but have a similar issue, please open a new request.

Hello there. I actually set one image as og image for all posts so that is why the og image has been shown. However, I need the image to be pulled from the gallery. I have removed that image and now it is empty so you can check further.

    Here are the two urls:

    1. Non working url with og image: https://imgur.com/a/hVAN33T

    2. Working url with og image: https://imgur.com/a/pTunkZR

There are two different categories but it really does not depends on the categories and there is some other problem. Even the preview is shown at the Facebook debug tool when posted there is no image actually since the og image tag is not present.

Sorry for the late reply but I wasn’t online for a while. I hope I will get this solved soon and that it will help other users who are facing this problem.
