• This plugin works for what it says it does but I couldn’t get it to style differently in any way whatsoever.

I needed the title under the thumbnail and the plugin author seemed to have no idea how to do this. I tried every which way imaginable by readings forums and the plugin support, including altering css and function.php files but to no avail. You’d think a plugin author would know how to do something as simple as this.

I contacted the plugin author to get some advice and I waited…and waited. Until I decided to go with another plugin (Display Posts Shortcode and Posts in Sidebar) which work fantastically for me. Support is slow. I know the authors are in no way required to provide support – but if I had gotten good support, I would’ve made a donation to the plugin just like I have for the ones that I’m now using.

Shame I tried for so long before moving on to something else.

It is not that I don’t have any idea about how to do it. As I said in the support thread, what you are requesting for needs a different HTML structure than the one that is currently outputted by my plugin. If you really good in CSS, then you could achieve it by changing the position property of elements or by editing the plugin to change the HTML structure.

I do understand that it took me quite sometime to get back to you. The first time I tried to access your site, it was hacked and you said it is going to take up sometime for you to fix it. After that I found that your site is NSFW (Not Safe For Work) and I couldn’t open it up from my office computer and need to find time after I return home to have a look at it. Also I hope you understand that I am just volunteering my time for this.

I am glad that you found another plugin that works for you.

Thanks for your response Sudar..and trust me when I say I have nothing personal against you.

The thumbnails/title have absolutely nothing to do with CSS or my CSS file or abilities because I have managed to set it without any CSS editing with the new plugins. If it was that easy to do with CSS editing, I am unsure as to why you didn’t help me out almost 2 weeks ago when I first asked for help?

The first time I tried to access your site, it was hacked and you said it is going to take up sometime for you to fix it.

I got back to you 1-2 days later – you make it sound like I didn’t reply to you for weeks.

Also I hope you understand that I am just volunteering my time for this.

Of course I understand – I already stated this above. But you knew that I would make a donation to you if the plugin worked for me.

Anyway, it’s over now. I just don’t appreciate you making it look like it was my fault that your plugin didn’t work on my site. I want everyone to know that if you have problems setting the style of the output, there are other options. For those who do have issues with styling, I have posted some suggestions in this thread: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/change-stylinglook?replies=13

    Cheers. I wish you well.

Actually it sounds like you were trying to use the wrong plugin. Or perhaps your knowledge of CSS isn’t quite as good as you think. Your site’s display is, ultimately, controlled your your CSS.

Of course…even a novice like me understands this. BUT it is not THE ONLY thing that controls the display as I discovered when I used other plugins. And it wasn’t the issue here anyway, so your point is irrelevant.

Or perhaps your knowledge of CSS isn’t quite as good as you think.

Whenever did I say I thought my CSS abilities were good? Could you point that out to me please?

WordPress is designed for everyone…not just developers who are good with CSS, etc. So my abilities have nothing to do with using plugins. If WordPress users were supposed to know CSS, HTML, php, etc., we wouldn’t have plugins would we?

What exactly is your issue with me anyway? I haven’t done or said anything to you for you to make such a comment about my abilities. In fact, I don’t even know you personally! [Comments moderated]

You seemed to imply that – in your opinion – no CSS needed to be changed. That is simply not the case with many – otherwise excellent – plugins. It is not uncommon for CSS tweaks to be needed in many situations and it’s not the plugin’s fault in any of them.

WordPress is designed for everyone…not just developers who are good with CSS, etc. So my abilities have nothing to do with using plugins.

Actually, if you want something very particular – like the above – then you do need to learn some CSS & HTML. It’s either that or pay for someone to develop a custom plugin. It’s certainly not a plugin’s fault if it did not format a display exactly to your personal specifications.

If WordPress users were supposed to know CSS, HTML, php, etc., we wouldn’t have plugins would we?

Yes we would. who wants to re-invent the wheel every 5 minutes. I’ve wirtten many, many, theme and a few plugins but I’m not above using someone else’s plugin or theme if it suits my purpose. What I would definitely not do is blame the plugin if the fit was not 200% perfect for a given site. I’d either use another plugin or roll up my sleeves and sort the display issue out myself.

What exactly is your issue with me anyway?

You are incorrectly assigning blame to a plugin for a custom display issue. And that devalues the review for everyone.
