OK to add foreign tables?

  • Is WP (3.8.1) OK with me adding new custom tables to the MySQL database? Will that interfere in any way with WP’s normal operations?

    (Assuming, of course, that the table name is completely unique and is never used by any WP feature or plugin)

    Is there anything I need to know about adding these custom, private tables?

  • You can add any other tables that you need to. Anything that’s not in the WordPress core DB tables won’t have any interaction with the core WP functions.
