Olayer FM does not update podcast cover art

I’m not sure of the process of updates over at Player FM. You will likely have to contact them.

Because it’s working everywhere else, the image is in the correct place.

I just checked player.fm and it has the newest image. Please double check.

Podcasting is a “pull” (not push) technology, the frequency of how often your podcast feed is pulled and updated on various directories is determined by each podcast network. We do not know much about Player.fm’s podcast directory, they are a very smaller player in the space in comparison to Apple or Google. We are aware how Apple Podcasts, Google podcast, and the Blubrry Podcasting directory update.

Apple Podcasts pulls feeds and updates every 4 hours for active podcasts. Make sure your web caching (if you have it) is cleared for updates to be prompt. Typically updates can take up to 24 hours to propagate within Apple (e.g. latest episode appearing in search results, image propagation, etc…)

Google Podcasts uses web search indexing to identify new episodes. Make sure your website can be indexed by Google. From our testing updates seem to be within 24 hours.

Blubrry Podcasting directory pulls feeds every 4 hours for active podcasts or once a day for podcasts who have not produced episodes in over 3 months. Search is indexed every 24 hours, new episodes can take that long to appear in search. New artwork is updated at the time of directory updating, but it can take up to 24 hours after that for application caches to clear and re-request the images to get the latest version of the artwork.

If the literal URL to the image does not change, e.g. you overwrite the existing artwork image with a new version but the filename itself never changed, it can take up to 3 months for artwork to update on Apple, Blubrry and most all podcast directories. As long as you use the upload image option in PowerPress, PowerPress will use a new unique filename that way these updates happen within 24 hours on most networks and podcast directories.

I am unsure of Player FM but I would give most other directories the benefit of the doubt as they may not have the infrastructure to update their directories as often or as robustly. In other words, I would give a service such as Player FM a few days to update. If concerned, contact that directory, they should be able to expedite your request, especially if it has to do with copyright or other legal matter.

Thanks for your reply, and sorry I have failed to say thank you so far: I forgot to check back after Mike’s reply.

I did as he said and the kind people at Player Fm updated the artwork (I do not what they did, but obviously, it was not an automated process — maybe they are caching some of the basic attribute forever).
