    Hey there,

I’ve tried just about everything I can personally think of to fix this issue, and looked through various forums for a fix on this but have never found an answer!

My website is using UpdraftPlus as its backup service. I am using Dropbox as the remote storage, and the back ups seem to work completely fine. However, it does not erase the previous back up data from Dropbox. Subsequently my Dropbox fills up quickly and I have to manually erase the old back ups to continue backing up the website. I have noticed this has happened to others.

Troubleshooting steps I have taken to no avail include: disconnecting UpdraftPlus from Dropbox and reconnecting, wiping the settings – deleting and reinstalling the plugin – then reconnecting, wiping the setting – deleting and reinstalling the plugin – then connecting to Google Drive

After purging and resetting the problem persists. Since it would seem that the error is coming from UpdraftPlus since no matter what storage system I use, the old backups are not deleting.

There are about 25 lines of code at the end pertaining to the Dropbox deletion that it shows an error:

    0184.382 (0) Dropbox: request deletion: backup_2023-09-26-1419_Fountains_2_Go_351bb188c7d5-plugins.zip 0184.718 (0) Dropbox: path_lookup (line: 283, file: /home2/thebeto2/public_html/fountains2go/wp-content/plugins/updraftplus/includes/Dropbox2/OAuth/Consumer/Curl.php) 0184.719 (0) Dropbox: deletion failed

Really hoping for direction on fixing this! I’ve been pulling my hair out hoping it’s something simple but after scouring the forums it doesn’t appear to be. TIA!

    Hello,

Thank you for your message. Please could you share the entire log file using pastebin.com?

    Hi,

Can you try deleting the version of the plugin that you have installed and downloading a fresh copy for the WP repository?

    (@adammcbeth)

    Hey @vupdraft,

I’ve deleted the plug in and redownloaded the plug in from the /wp-admin/plugin-install.php twice, and then just downloaded it again straight from the repository. I’ll paste the log here, but it didn’t seem to have an effect. I still see 0158.637 (0) Dropbox: deletion failed

I’ve been wiping the settings, deleting the plug in, and then redownloading for clarification

    Thanks for any input

What version of Curl are you running (You can check this in the Advanced tools tab of UpdraftPlus): https://snipboard.io/7Jh3tr.jpg

In tools >> site health, do you see any warnings/errors?

    Thread Starter adammcbeth

    (@adammcbeth)

    Hey @vupdraft

    Here’s the Curl info:

    Current SQL Mode: NO_AUTO_CREATE_USER,NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTIONCurl

    version:8.3.0 / SSL: OpenSSL/1.1.1w / libz: 1.2.7

No warnings in site health, just advising on plug in updates (not Updraft) and caching and an inactive theme

I can see that you have split your archives to 100 MB, can you reduce these further to 25 MB and run a new process?

    Thread Starter adammcbeth

    (@adammcbeth)

Just tried reducing the file split to 25mb and it had no effect on erasing the previous backup!

    Apologies for the ongoing inconvenience.

Can you try changing the file permissions to this file temporarily to 777

    wp-content/plugins/updraftplus/includes/Dropbox2/OAuth/Consumer/Curl.php)

Can you also enable debug mode in the settings tab >> show expert settings

Can you then run another backup and send us the log

Once you have run the backup, it would probably be a good idea to change the file permissions to 755.

    Thread Starter adammcbeth

    (@adammcbeth)

Thanks for the response! The resulting file was too large for pastebin so I put it onto Google Drive. I am also unfamiliar with changing permission levels so I couldn’t perform that step? If you have any insight on how to performa that I’d be happy! Otherwise attached is a log of the back up in debug mode.

    HI,

apologies, more requests, can you send us your php error logs? (these should be in the root of your site)

Can you also create a php info file (please see here for a guide: https://kinsta.com/knowledgebase/phpinfo/)

    (@adammcbeth)

    Hey @vupdraft

I’m afraid we’re getting outside of my technical prowess. I’m not sure where my php error logs would be. I’m just not able to execute these steps of troubleshooting. Are there steps potentially? Or am I out of luck?

Thanks so much for the help

they are normally in the root of your site (the public html folder). You can also ask your hosts for them. I have been trying to recreate this issue on my site and so far I have been unable to replicate this.

I am going to ask my colleague to see if they have any further thoughts.

Good news, I did find the error log for that website in my directory. Are there any security concerns with publishing it here?

    Thanks so much

Hi, You can post the error log to a service such as pastebin and post the link here.

You will need to remove any identifying information from the log, such as IP addresses, your site domain, and any usernames in filepaths.
