The problem concerns Google search results, so maybe the problem is not in the plugin, but maybe someone has encountered a similar situation and can help to solve it.

I had an event that took place on April 23, 2023. This year that event will repeat on April 30, 2024, so I didn’t create a new event, just replaced the text and date in the old one. So the URL is the same. Everything is displayed correctly on the site! But for some reason in the search results Google displays the old date of the event. However, all other information has been updated.

What could be the reason, who can tell me?

  • Hi @nuvel,

You’re right, this is likely an issue with how Google has cached the information about your event, rather than a problem with the Events Calendar plugin itself.

Here are a couple of things you can try to get Google to update its search results:

Resubmit the Event to Google Search Console: If you have a Google Search Console account, you can use the URL Inspection tool to resubmit the event page to Google. This will prompt Google to crawl the page again and potentially update the cached information.

Clear Google’s Cache (Soft and Hard Refresh): In some cases, a simple browser cache refresh (Ctrl+F5 or Cmd+Shift+R) might prompt your browser to download the latest version of the page from Google. Additionally, Google may update its cache over time, so waiting a few days might also help.

Update the Event Content (Slightly): While you’ve mentioned updating the text and date, consider making a minor, additional change to the event content and saving it. This could be adding a sentence or a new image. Sometimes, even a small modification can trigger Google to recrawl the page and update its search results.

It’s important to note that Google can take some time to update its search index, so it might not be immediate. However, the steps above should help nudge Google in the right direction.

    Thanks for the reply!

In fact, I did it all ??

The event page was sent to Google Console for re-indexing. The information of event has been changed several times.

I see that Google has picked up all the changes. The only problem is the date he substitutes.

More than a week has passed, the situation has not changed.

    Hi @nuvel

    Thanks for your response.

Could you provide a screenshot or screen recording of the issue? In addition, please provide the keyword you used to search for the event on Google. We want to check this further on our side.

    The problem was solved.

The thing is that old events, for example last year’s events, are marked with the format date: 25.08.2023.

This year’s events have the format: August 25. That is, without a year.

And when I changed only the date (or text and date) in the old last year’s event, Google specified the day of the event correctly, but the year substituted the old one. For example, the event took place on 25/08/2023, I changed it to 12/08/2024, Google gives 12/08/2023.

And then I changed the format of displaying the date in new events (2024) to August 12, 2024 in the plugin settings.

This helped. Google stopped showing the wrong date. To be honest, it stopped showing the date at all, but that’s fine with me.
