    Hi,
in my sitemap there are two pages, which don’t exist (deleted one or two years ago), so I cannot get them out of the sitemap by using noindex or nofollow… Of course I deactivated sitemap functionality, cleared cache and activated the sitemap again (date of it is today!!).

  • Hi goehlert,

Thank you for getting in touch with us.

We checked your pages sitemap and found two pages from 2016 and 2017. They’re both returning 404 errors.

We suggest resolving the 404 errors. You have a couple of options here: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/my-sitemap-is-giving-a-404-error-what-should-i-do

Once you’ve resolved the 404 errors, please try resubmitting the sitemap by following these steps: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/submit-sitemap-search-engines/

    Does that solve the problem?

    Hi,
this doesn’t resolve the Problem. These are the two pages (membership-registration and theater), which I don’t use, which I have deleted two / three years ago and which I don’t want to have in my sitemap anymore.
Of course they return 404 errors as the pages don’t exist. So I don’t want to resolve the 404 errors, I want the pages to be removed from my sitemap.

If the page is still included in your sitemap even after toggling the sitemap on/off, the page might still be existing somewhere. To narrow down, please do the following:

    1. Make sure you’re using the latest Yoast SEO 9.7.
    2. Toggle Off XML sitemap under SEO > General > Features.
    3. Clear all caches including your server, CDN, plugin, and theme’s cache.
    4. Toggle back On your XML sitemap under SEO > General > Features.

We’ve tested this on Yoast SEO 9.7. We’ve deleted a page and automatically, the page disappeared from the sitemap.

    Hi,
I did this all together, but still the same (I only have a server cache which I cleared)

Unfortunately, we think the issue is specific to your site. We’d need to investigate further but are unable to do so on these forums. You can purchase Yoast SEO Premium and receive our Premium email support and we can help you further.
