Hi, I just tested your backup plugin and have a question why files that should not be there after restoring to an older point in time, yet are still there.

For example lets say I made a backup (both local and remote, Google Drive) 5 days ago.

I installed a few plugins in the meantime and realize somethign went wrong, I need to switch back to a previous status.

So, I restore from local the backup I made 5 days ago. I would assume that the files I have tested in the 5 days after will not show up – yet they do. and worse their folders are still in teh database. The backup file was made 5 days ago with a different dataabse. So whats the point of creating a backup if files that might have caused an issue or clutter the file system/database are still there even after a backup?

Backing up should by definition mean whatever happened in the meantime will be gone/erased/not shown.

The same happens when I use teh remote backup instead of local – same result.

So pls explain what the point of using WPvivid is if those files that I want to get rid of still show up?

    Thanks.

    Hello @melaniesinmek

Our plugin does not delete files in a restoration, because that may cause unexpected issues.

It is always recommended to restore to a clean WordPress install to avoid any compatibility issues. The pro version offers the options to clean old files and empty database before a restoration.

Thanks for your quick reply, I really appreciate it.

Well, so are you telling me I should make backups but when I use them to restore them I should actually delete the entire wordpress first, gte aclean instal and then restore with WPvivid the backup file I created?

Isnt that counter-intuitive? Then what are the restore buttons inside the plugin for when I can restore straight away? According to your reply I should never do that as files that I didnt want to be there could still be there??

My example was maybe too simple, lets assume I create a backup at 15:00. I test the website and install a few plugins. At 18:00 I get an issue or rethink my decisions and want to restore to the last point.

So, if I restore then those files that I have just added/installed in the last 3 testing hours, are still there. and worse they are still in the database. But didnt I create a restore backup with teh database at 15:00 so should the database at least not show that exact database? Instead the new plugins are included in the database, so this is what leaves me confused. Then why did I even create a backup?

I hope this is clearer this time. From my perspective, the backup should only restore what was in WordPress/database at the exact time I took the backup. Or am I mistaken here?

    No problem.

The free version covers all basic features for site owners to make daily backups of their sites and restore the sites in a fresh install when something goes wrong.

If you are a developer, there are ‘reset options’ in the pro version that will help you quickly reset WordPress. Or if you prefer to use the free version, you can install a fresh site and perform the restore as needed.
