Old preg_match problem

  • Setting up WordPress on a new server.
    Php version 5.3.10.
    Getting the following message which I have found mentioned quite a few times but with no effective resolution offered.

    Warning: preg_match() [function.preg-match]: Compilation failed: unknown option bit(s) set at offset 0 in /home/strictly/public_html/minerals-fossils-rocks.com/wp/wp-includes/class-simplepie.php on line 11043

    I understand this is a code incompatibility. Is there a solution in the offing?
