Old site still showing

Hey guys I followed a guide on how to make your subdirectory site into your root directory site last week and it worked perfectly after a little troubleshooting. The old page disappeared and the new page started to show. I logged in today and the old site is back. Do I have to shut the old site off completely or can they co-exist? Any ideas why my old site came back without anyone touching anything?

As the subdirectory where wordpress should be pulling the new page from. If I have to shut the old site off completely, any help on how to do that? Many thanks for any help.
