Old themes no longer listed in the .org directory receive auto-updates?

    Today I was surprised to see a theme update get pushed to a moribund blog for the old “Clean Home” theme (version 1.2) since it no longer seems to exist in the theme directory. It does exist in the .com directory, but no file in that package is newer than 2013. The package contents are also substantially different from the one pushed out from .org today: https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/theme/clean-home.1.2.0.zip

    I’m wondering why this update was pushed to .org users at all now, since it’s existed for about a year and a half. There’s no changelog, but without comparing the old files that were overwritten by the update, one obvious changs is the credit and link to the original author have been removed from footer.php and replaced with a backlink to wordpress.com.

    Could you please let me know what version of Clean Home you had running before the update?

    It was running 1.1.4. I’ve switched it to the .com 1.2 version since I know that exists now.

    Based on forum posts about this theme, it sounds like there were later versions up to a 1.2.1 release three years ago, but “Clean Home” was dropped from the .org directory due to some licensing issue. Several versions are floating around the web, but the original sources and its author have moved on to other things.

    Apparently this was a glitch caused by yesterday’s launch of the new theme directory on www.ads-software.com. One of the core developers has pushed a fix that should prevent this from happening in the future.
