We’re having an issue on our site where some old URLs are still showing up. The exclude options provided by Yoast filters don’t work for us, since there are only options for taxonomy, CPT, category and post ID exclusion, but nothing for specific URLs. We can’t exclude post IDs since those URLs don’t exist and can’t be picked up in admin. Opening them throws a 404 error. We’ve also tried disabling and enabling XML sitemap functionality with no success as the URLs still show up. Any input on this would be appreciated, thanks.

    Hi,

Can you confirm you’re using the latest version of WordPress 5.4.2 and Yoast SEO for WordPress 14.6.1?

We understand that some old URLs are still showing in your sitemap. Could you please check if your sitemap isn’t cached? You can refer to this article for more information — https://yoast.com/help/sitemap-does-not-update/

Would it also be possible for you to provide the sitemap index URL and a sample of one of those URLs that are still showing up in the sitemap?

    Hello Michael,

We’re using the latest versions for both WordPress and Yoast plugins.

Caching isn’t the issue since we’ve tried clearing both autoptimize, setting transient cache to disabled in code and enabling/disabling XML sitemap feature, but the URLs still show up.

Would it be possible to send the URLs privately?

    Hi @ritmanis ,

Unfortunately, there’s no way of sending private messages here in the forums.
To further narrow down your issue, can you please confirm if you are not using any CDN such as Cloudflare? Also, have you tried resetting permalinks (Settings > Permalinks > Save Changes (no actual changes)), and then disable/enable your XML sitemap again?

?We look forward to your response.

We’re only using CDN on our production site, but the same issue persists on staging with all caches cleared. We’ve also tries resetting permalings, enabling/disabling sitemap etc. None of these work unfortunately.

@ritmanis We understand if you don’t want to post URLs in a public forum, but if you want to share a URL with us without a link you can upload a screenshot of a URL/sitemap using an image sharing site such as https://pasteboard.co/ or something similar and then sharing a link to the uploaded image URL.

If we’re able to view the sitemap and the URLs in question, it would help to check if any other issue are present that might be causing the issue.
