I recently migrated my www.ads-software.com blog from a private server run by a friend to Bluehost. After I migrated the blog, I changed its name from “Great are the Works of the Lord” to “Whatever is True.”

Everything is working fine, except the old name of the blog is still appearing in two places. Most importantly, when my subscribers receive e-mails notifying them of new posts, the old name still appears in the e-mails.

Also, this blog shows up on my WordPress.com account with the old name. When I try to change the name in “Settings” on wordpress.com, it looks changed. However, when I log out and log back in, it has reverted back to the old name.

How can I fix these erroneous old name appearances?

    Thanks.

    Hi @oceanmoonrise

If you have a self-hosted WordPress, you should have access to a dashboard. It can be accessed via oceanmoonrise.com/wp-admin; from there, you can execute the changes you need.

You mentioned “the old name of the blog is still appearing in two places” what are those places, if I may ask?

“the old name still appears in the e-mails” if you are using a third-party mail service like Mailchimp or ActiveCampaign, you need to make the changes from those accounts.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi @jaygumanid

My site is hosted at Bluehost. I changed the blog name in wp-admin Settings when I migrated the blog.

The two places are the subscriber e-mails and the WordPress.com account.

I am using the “Subscribe” widget that is in my WordPress install.

    Hi @oceanmoonrise

Your current website oceanmoonrise.com hosted at Bluehost, is connected with your WordPress.com account via Jetpack. As I understand it, you need to make changes to the WordPress.com dashboard and to your self-hosted WordPress dashboard, oceanmoonrise.com/wp-admin.

As for the subscribe widget. It’s a Jetpack service that is also connected to your WordPress.com account. An option to change the blog’s name should be present along with its options.

That’s the extent I could help, you can show screenshots, and that will be helpful to support you further.

    Hi @jaygumanid

I have changed the name in the wordpress.com Settings area, but it keeps reverting back to the old name.

I have screen shots to show you what I see.

When I log in to wordpress.com and go to the Settings, I see:
    https://oceanmoonrise.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Name_Issue1.png

Note that the name in the “Site Title” box and the title at the upper left are already different.

Then, I change the name in the Site Title box and save. This looks like I have changed the title as I need: https://oceanmoonrise.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Name_Issue2.png

However, if I close that tab and then log back in, I see that the situation has reverted to where I started: https://oceanmoonrise.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Name_Issue3.png

Since this is a wordpress.com/Jetpack issue, would it make sense to seek help from them?

    Hello, there.

This would not be caused by Jetpack, and WordPress as a software should be saving your changes and not reverting like you’re seeing.

Would you be able to contact your webhost to see if they are able to reset all file and folder permissions on your account to ensure they are all standard (644 for files and 755 for directories)?

Also, it’s rare, but it would be a good idea for them to check if you are in “read only mode,” just in case.

Either which way, since this issue is not related to Jetpack, your webhost will be the one to help best from here since they are in control of your site’s server and cache, which appears to be getting stuck somewhere. I hope they’re able to find the cause and fix that for you quickly!

Thank you all for your support! I was able to resolve this thanks to advice from wordpress.com support. I disconnected and reconnected Jetpack, and that solved both of the problems. It is amazing how many problems can be solved by turning it off and on again.

    @oceanmoonrise Glad that’s settled. ??
