• I can see the left hand column but can’t see anything in the main area.

    I tried the things mentioned in this post:

    1) deleting extra spaces in wp-admin/admin-functions.php
    2) deleting spaces in wp-content/themes/[mytheme]/functions.php
    3) looked for define(WP-CACHE in wp-config but I didn’t find that line anywhere
    4) deleted the wp-admin folder and re uploaded it

    And I am not sure how to update wordpress if I can’t see the admin.

    What I open code inspector in the browser to see if something indeed IS in the ‘main area’ of the admin I saw this line of code:

    Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

    If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via FTP or SFTP, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).
