I’ve only been using wordpress a couple of weeks. I am using the darkwater theme. When I make new posts my oldest post disappears. On the main page in Navigation there are two links Home and about me, then catagories and archives/march 2008 I searched all of these but did not find the posts. I have a total of 20 posts. I went into options and reading where it says blog posts I had it set to show 25 posts at most thinking this meant to show 25 posts at most on the main page then as I acceeded 25 posts the older posts would automatically be archived onto another page with links to those posts on the main page. Instead they disappeared. I went back to options/reading/ show at most and put 100 posts till I figure things out then I reposted those posts. Do I need to create new pages within the theme for those older posts? If so how do I set things up so those posts will appear in the new pages instead of disappearing? https://www.myillinoisancestors.com/wordpress
    Thanks Wendy

Make that your main page more friendly.
Nobody is willing to check out a mile long page. Set it to 5-10 posts the masimum… although with long posts 3-4 is enough.

Any normal theme has the Older(previous) posts link on the index page from where you go to see the previous 5… and another 5 etc. (if, for example, it is set to show 5 posts).

No, you don’t have to create anything – WP is smarter than that.

Okay I went to make the page shorter I went to options reading and selected show at most 5 posts, but that doesn’t seem to be working either. Sorry

    What is not working?
You have the next/previous navigation at the bottom of the site. And they work. Just scroll down and check it out.

Maybe you need some basic understanding how things are supposed to work (not necessarily according to what you think!).
Suppose you have 24 posts and you set to be shown 5 posts.
On your main page there will be shown the latest 5 posts. Always the latest! Clicking on previous posts link > will show the previous 5 (6-10), then clicking it again > the previous 5 (11-15)… and so on. On the last click, which in your case would be something like
    https://myillinoisancestors.com/wordpress/index.php?paged=5
there would be only 4 posts (4×5=20 and 24-20=4).
    That’s how WP works.

You just have the bad habit of making very, very long posts and not breaking them with a “read more” tag or something… and nobody ever – including yourself – bothers to scroll to the bottom of the page and, eventually, see the Previous Posts link…

I’ve got it set to 5 posts per page max. It seems to be working now all my posts are there. The computer at work I was using is not the best nor the internet connection. I’ve never done this before and I’m still learning. Thank You so much for your help.
