Omit category from date archives

I’ve archived a good chunk of my previous posts (threw them all in a category titled ‘archive’) from years ago so I could start fresh. Although I still need access to the archived content that’s why I left them there rather than just deleting them.

My issue is: I need to know a way to omit the posts in this category from showing up in the date archives in my sidebar. I have all my new posts from 2011 which is great but then I have all the monthly archives from years previous. Any way I can just get these not to show, and only show the date archives from posts that aren’t in mentioned category? I’m using a widgetized sidebar as well.
