On backorder VS Out of stock

    Hi,

    I’m encountering a problem when importing products in WooCommerce. As I remember, this issue comes up with the last WooCommerce update (v 5.0).

    My customer uses Hiboutik to manage the stock. To update the eshop, we export a CSV file and import it in WooCommerce. Previously, when a product had 0 of stock, is was imported in WooCommerce as “Out of stock”. Recently – using the same method – the product is set to “On backorder”. I precise that I’ve verified that the “Allow backorders” option is set on “Do not allow”.

    Also, I can’t modify the stock status of some “On backorder” products. I’ve increased the stock, updated the product page and then decreased to 0 and updated again but nothing change.

    Hello Michael,

    It seems some products are imported with incorrect order status, and for some, you’re unable to change the stock status after import.

    I see you’re using Hiboutik to manage the stock. What happens when you disable the plugin and then try to import products/ make changes to stock? Do you still see the same behavior?

    If yes, could you please share a copy of your site’s System Status? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”.? Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.

    Hello Asshik,

    Thank you very much for you prompt answer and sorry for the delay: I wasn’t able to make tests before.

    I’ve deactivated the Hiboutik plugin and nothing change. When I add stock on a variation, the product is set as “In stock”. However, when I reset all the stocks at 0, the product status isn’t “Out of stock” but always “On backorder”.

    Also, another strange behaviour concerns variations’ dropdown (in a product page). Normally, when the stock of an attribute is 0, the dropdown is still showing the attribute (eg. XL). However, this is not the case in some of the products contained in the shop.

    Does a data base cleanup could improve something?

    Also, another strange behaviour concerns variations’ dropdown (in a product page). Normally, when the stock of an attribute is 0, the dropdown is still showing the attribute (eg. XL). However, this is not the case in some of the products contained in the shop.

    Nothing obvious stands out from the System Status Report, but this kind of problem is usually caused by a conflict with your theme or with another plugin.
    ?
    The best way to determine this is to:

    • Temporarily switch your theme to Storefront
    • Disable all plugins except for WooCommerce
    • Repeat the action that is causing the problem

    If you’re not seeing the same problem after completing the conflict test, then you know the problem was with the plugins and/or theme you deactivated. To figure out which plugin is causing the problem, reactivate your other plugins one by one, testing after each, until you find the one causing conflict. You can find a more detailed explanation on how to do a conflict test here.`

    Hello Aashik,

    thanks for answering. I’ve activated the Troubleshooting Mode. When I activate the Frontstore theme and I deactivate all the plugins but WooCommerce, here is the results:

    Variations dropdown
    One product is still showing only the attributes where stock is higher than 0 (see here)

    Stock management
    In the product admin page, when I set all the variations’ stocks to 0, the product is tagged with “On Backorder”.
    However, when I do the actions listed below, I succeed in putting the product “Out of stock”:
    – activating the option “Enable stock management at product level”
    – putting a stock quantity > 0 in “Stock quantity”
    – publishing
    – displaying the product in the catalog (admin side)
    – putting the stock quantity to 0
    – publishing
    – displaying the product in the catalog (admin side)
    – deactivating the option “Enable stock management at product level”
    – publishing
    – displaying the product in the catalog (admin side)

    Thanks to this process, I’v succeeded in modifying all the “On backorder” products to “Out of stock” ones.

    Also, I’ve made a test using the Hiboutik plugin and manually synchronizing stocks (it’s a functionality of the plugin). Products with 0 stock are still tagged “Out of stock”. Hope it will be the same in the next sells (if a stock variations becomes 0).

    To sum up, there is still a bug dealing with the variations’ dropdown menu.

    Not sure what exactly is causing this behavior. If you manually create a new copy of this product, do you see the same behavior on the copied, new product – too?

    Hello Aashik,

    thanks for your answer. I’ve manually create a new copy of the product but nothing change (I made the test in normal mode and troubleshooting mode). However, at the first secondes of loading, all the attributes are displayed in the dropdown menu (as you can see here). And when the page is entirely loaded, the dropdown menu only shows the in stock attribute(s).

    I’m a bit confused with this behavior and don’t really know what to search…

    Hello Michael,

    That doesn’t look like the stock Storefront Theme theme. Can you please try with that theme enabled?

    If that doesn’t help as well, the next step would be to reach out to your WebHost and confirm if they’re caching your website files, and if yes, request them to temporarily disable caching and see if you can still replicate this behavior.
