On publishing posts through WP to Twitter, server slammed
-
When I publish a post, presumably during the Twitter handshake and tweet, my server gets slammed. On monitoring via top, the CPU shoots up to 15 or higher, and memory seems to be consumed by Apache processes. This state lasts for maybe 45 seconds, or even longer, then returns to normal.
Testing with the plugin disabled eliminates the drag. I can’t associate the sudden performance drop to any upgrades or other plugins.
Previously (until a few days back) I did see a noticeable delay on the publishing of posts, with the plugin enabled. I assume that is expected while the API interacts with Twitter. But this perfromance issue seems to be new.
Based on the API and systems involved, how might I better identify what is consuming my resources? Are others seeing similar performance issues? Any suggestions for further troubleshooting this?
