One Participants Database Plugin With Two Databases – Is this possible?

  • Hello,

    I am working on a site where I would like to track professional level folks and amateur level folks as well. I think this will necessitate two separate databases as I will be collecting a lot of divergent information from the two groups. I have one wordpress installation (not a multi-user setup) on this site.

    1. Is there a way to use one plugin but point the various fields to two different databases?
    2. Or could I install the plugin twice on the same blog to get the two different databases?
    3. Worst case scenario, if I can only go with one database, is there a way to separate the information into two subsets within the single database?

    I’m not entirely sure these questions make sense, but I hope you can help me.

    I found his web site and sent an email that way as well. If he responds via email, I will come back and update this thread just in case someone else might find the answer useful in the future.

    Strictly speaking, you cannot access or use more than one database with this plugin. There is enough flexibility in how you can set up user interaction with the database so that you can easily set them apart with the value of a single field. Using filters on the [pdb_list] shortcode, you can show completely different sets of data on different pages. You can have more than one signup page, and using a hidden field tied to the name of that page, you can separate the signups from one another.

    You’ll have to get creative with it, but it is possible.

    I will be working on implementing this solution over the next few days. Looks like I’ll be checking out the filter information in ‘Other Notes’. Hopefully I can get creative enough with them to gather and categorize the information in a way that makes sense for the user and within the database.

    Hi. I have a similar question: I would like to be able to have people sign up their groups, which I got working perfectly (Thanks !!) at https://thepaulnetwork.com/?page_id=31. I do, however, need to have people sign up for various sessions and meetings.

    I read the comments above, and I guess my question is then: Can I set up more than one version of the signup page? ie dump all the data for my registration setup above, AND registration for the sessions into the one Database, but have certain fields visible in the Registration view (as above) and then OTHER fields in a “Signup 2” view?

    Hello to all!

    Unfortunately, I was sidetracked and haven’t had a chance to work on this issue until now. I will implementing the solutions discussed here over the next several days and I will come back to update my success.

    Paul, I don’t have any advice at the moment, but hopefully my experiences later this week or early next week will be helpful for you.

    Xnau, I saw in another post that your next update will show how to use templates to limit the information presented to users. Any ETA on when that update will arrive?
