• I run a site for a brewery but I am sure that there are other sites this plug in would help as well.

    Yes I HATE splash screens too, so if there is another way opf doing this I’m listening!

    Essentially:

    First time visitor – on any page – cant enter the site, they get a Lightbox type popup splash screen

    Customizable text:

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Hello
    Welcome to Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
    I am Under 21 — I am 21 or Over
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    The options above are hypertext. One takes you to any address the admin chooses (other website) the other lets them in the website.

    Looking forward to your replies

  • I’m also interested in this – any bites?

    Great plugin idea… I think I will develop it.

    This is a great idea, especially for musician websites and new sites! I’ve been searching everywhere for one!

    VelvetBlues.com…. did you develop this yet? I would LOVE it. yes, I hate splash pages, too, but when someone wants it, they want it.

    I had come to the conclusion that lightbox would be the best way to do this — automatically loading in an active state on the frontpage — where clicking or a timed element (both, with option to set time in seconds or milliseconds) then hides the splash, displaying the actual front page content.

    I think I could develop it by hand, but a plugin would rock.

    Glad to hear others are interested as well – would be glad to kick a few bucks back to a developer for a good implementation.

    I’ll keep watching this thread – cheers!

    I needed one too but didn’t find one anywhere so I took the time to make one for everyone to use. Although I’m a programmer, this is my first WordPress plugin so please use this beta with caution. Test it completely before you use it on a real website.

    Looking forward to hearing any comments or suggestions.

    I’ve applied to have it hosted here but I haven’t heard back yet.

    Took a minute but got it hosted here:

    This is a great idea. I want to use WordPress for a political website. The splashscreen plugin is OK and works for basic stuff like entering the website, but I really need to be able to make php templates, not HTML ones.

    And it would be a lot easier if the admin didn’t have to edit the template file to change it. If there was a feature in the plugin to allow the admin to edit the content inside the wordpress admin panel, it would be better.

    @velvet, i’m hoping you’ve got something.

    mmoran0226:

    I called the templates .htm so they can be easily found but you can place PHP code in there. In fact, the sample template uses the header and footer calls.

    Editing the template inside the admin probably is the proper way to do this plugin but I didn’t want to have to create a bunch of code to copy/delete/rename new templates. In other words, I was lazy and just wanted to get it done.

    If I have free time in the future, this will be on my to-do list for sure.
