    Hello,

I have lost all the comments from my WordPress blog and wish to restore it from backup I created using Online Backup for WordPress. I have an encrypted zip backup which was e-mailed to me.

    I read your instructions:
“If the backup file was sent to your email inbox, you will need to login to any WordPress blog with the plugin installed (such as your new installation after a disaster) and use the “Decrypt a Backup” option to upload and decrypt your backup file using your encryption keys.”

I tried to decrypt the file from another of my blogs with the plug in but it failed. I would really like to to remove all the files from the blog I am trying to restore and restart it from the back up. Is this possible, and if so, how do I decrypt with the plugin removed?

Now I have tried to decrypt using the plugin on the blog I’m trying to restore. I had to ftp the encrypted backup to the file suggested in the dialogue box. I get the following error message:

The backup could not be decrypted; the encryption details specified were incorrect.

Can anyone tell me how to recover lost comments if I can’t get the backup to decrypt?

Instead of inserting your problem into other people’s old threads please post this to that plugin’s forums.

    Sorry,

I have used WordPress for years, but this is the first time I have had to use the forums.

Thank you for pointing me in the correct direction.

    Hi rlgibs,

I remember something like this happened with a specific version of PHP 4 and the plugin that we had to work around in a newer plugin version.

How big is the backup file? If you could email it to support “at” backup-technology.co.uk along with encryption details we can see if the backup is retrievable.

If it isn’t from this known problem then the only reason for the message you get is that the encryption details you gave are incorrect and do not match what was used when the backup was encrypted. In which case there will be no way to get at the data I’m afraid.

    Hi rlgibs,

I sent the file back to you. We found a problem that could cause the issue you are seeing on occasion. We’ll release a fix soon to sort it.

Thank you so much for the rapid response and willingness to take a look at it. I was able to decrypt the file you sent back without a problem.

    Great service!

You’re very welcome rlgibs! We’ll roll out an update in next couple weeks hopefully to fix this issue so any future emailed backups work fine for you.

    Sorry about the issue!

    Jason.
