EWWW IO is a free plugin, and always will be, so long as I’m around to support it. Some webhosts don’t allow the free mode to work, but that’s completely out of my control.

It’s confusing at best though. It shows 20% optimized with “How do I get to 100%? – Enable premium compression with an API key or ExactDN.” It looks to me like the plugin I used to use for free is now only fully optimizing with a paid plan. Maybe I’m misunderstanding what I’m seeing? I have a dedicated server with plenty of resources, so not really interested in the upgraded service and not clear on what will or will not work without subscribing.

@diesel12, nothing has changed with the actual compression methods used in free mode, or in paid mode, for quite some time. Although the tools get updated from time to time, it’s generally for bugfixes, as the compression gains are already pretty well maxed out.

The percentages are designed to show you how much you’re missing out on by not using Premium compression, as the average with Pixel Perfect (lossless) is 7-10%, whereas the Premium is 45% and Premium Plus is over 55% on average (both lossy, but what some call “visually lossless”).

That said, you’re still quite welcome to use the free mode, and I have no intention of changing that ??

Did you even understand the reply? Haha – that sounds as confusing as the plugin labels.

I installed it and couldn’t even work out how to compress any images without buying an API subscription neither. Used to use this and remember it being good, uninstalled it within 5 minutes this time around.

If you’re confused, I offer free support to every single user of the plugin, all you have to do is ask: https://ewww.io/contact-us/

Documentation is available at https://docs.ewwww.io for many common issues, supported webhosts are listed here: https://docs.ewww.io/article/43-supported-web-hosts

So yeah, you don’t have to pay for compression, you don’t have to pay for support, what more do you want?

My comment was only meant ‘tongue-in-cheek’ and I am sure your plugin does do what you are saying, it just not very clear at all how to do anything without an API key.

I even just visited your ‘supported webhosts’ page that specifically states at the bottom:

With the exception of one.com, EWWW IO will work on every and any webhost using an API key.

Everywhere in the WordPress plugin config, it referred to needing an API key, which links you to a page where everywhere on the page mentions pricing plans.

If your plugin handles the compression of images on your WordPress site for free, your’re doing an excellent job of hiding it…

Very well, but I wish you wouldn’t leave comments you don’t really mean (tongue in cheek) on a negative review…
It’s not helpful, and just distracts me from helping folks that actually want help.
