Only display posts in a certain category?

I apologize if this can be done, I haven’t been able to find it.
If I wanted to get a list of all the posts in a certain category, can I do it? Can I use “The Loop” to do this?
I’d like to use the “hack” if you will that other systems use where you make all of your posts to a “blog posts” category that gets showed on the front page, and then if I post to a “Music I’m currently listening to” category, then I only show the last one from that category on the side bar, ditto for “Last Movie I saw” etc…
Does WP handle this and how so?
I did look for this information, so please let me know if it’s out there and I missed it. Thanks!
