Only image #1 loads correctly when using 'Update URL with slide IDs'

I have created a thumbnail slider on my homepage to link through to a gallery created with Portfolio Slideshow.
If I click through on image #1 the slideshow displays correctly with the thumbnail appearing below the large image. However if I use the links to any of the other images in the gallery the thumbnails are hidden behind the main image. This is resolved as soon as you click on the image (to move on to the next slide).

Gallery page (any number other 1 displays incorrectly.I am guessing its a jquery issue but I’m a bit lost on that score!
