Links to specific articles, comments, categories, etc. on my blog have suddenly all stopped working. Only the main page can be accessed. All the content is still there, as you can see from the main page, it just can’t be reached in any other way.

I discovered this just an hour or so ago. I updated to 2.3.2 a day or so ago, so that might be related. I updated to 2.3.3 after discovering this hoping it would fix the problem, but no luck.

I can still access the Admin controls, fortunately. New posts created since the upgrades are suffering the same problems as the older ones.

I’m hosted on Yahoo, and I believe the original WordPress version was 2.0.2. I do have backups of both that and the 2.3.2 incarnations of the blog, if it comes to that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated; I’m new to blogging and have little idea of what’s causing this or how to fix this.

  • You could try switching your permalinks back to default then switching back to the way you had it.

Thanks, but I had no success with this. If it matters, I have the “Customizable Permalinks” plug-in on (a warning message popped up mentioning it).

Is there more information I can provide that might help?

    Jeremy,

After further tinkering I’ve discovered that your suggestion partially works. I can’t get the permalinks to work the way I had them before (which was date-and-name-based), but leaving it in default mode fixes the problem.

I’m not exactly happy with this, but the blog is still small enough and little-known enough that I should be able to clean up any mess this causes manually. So I’m going to do it that way and mark this one as resolved. Thanks again for your help.

I am having the same exact problem that DanielMcNeese is having, all of the links (permalinks) to specific post etc. from my blog’s homepage – https://www.thegritsbookclub.com/authorinterviews – have suddenly stopped working. Just in case you are wondering, I’ve been using the default (ugly permalinks) since I setup and started using this blog. So there has not been a change with the permalinks at all. I did not realize these links were not working until I was working on a post and tried to preview it and even the preview link brings back a blank page. I have been back and forth with my hosting company about this issue, but they don’t seem to be able to determine what’s causing this problem.

My hosting company did move me over to a new platform 2 months ago, and the blog was working fine after that move. But all of a sudden it is no longer working. I have 3 other blogs on that same server that are working fine, so any suggestions or tips I can try to get this blog working again (I’m also using the latest version of WordPress too)?

Thanks in advance for any and help!

thegritsdotcom: To get the most responses, you should really start your own post next time because this one has been marked [resolved] and people may skip over it because of this. Your posts are not generating a 404 not found like with a permalink problem. Your posts are just blank or empty with no code whatsoever in them. I don’t think it’s permalink related. I don’t know what could be causing it, but try a forum search for: blank posts to see if anyone else has figured it out.

@thegritsdotcom: Have you just upgraded your WordPress installation?

If so, there seems to be some problem with permalinks in the 2.6 series at present, and quite a few people have posted their solutions/work-arounds here that you may find helpful.

p/s: Usually when my permalinks stop working, I click on the Settings->Permalinks and click on ‘Save’ to ensure everything is up-to-date since it re-writes the .htaccess file. But this didn’t work that well for my local install of 2.6.1.

iridiax: Oops! Thanks for the tip about starting a new topic next time. When I arrived to this forum, I noticed that it changed a bit and I did not see right away a place to start a new topic. So I immediately started searching the forums for answers! I will definitely do some reading at the blank post threads. Thanks!

Hi Mosey, I had upgraded to the 2.6 version when the problem started and then I upgraded to the 2.6.1 in hopes that it would correct itself. But it didn’t! Thanks so much for directing me to other discussions around this topic; I appreciate your assistance too!
