  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    OMG! This seems so complicated! do you think it could be a plugin not related to the categories. I’ve already disinstalled all the category related plugins and it is still not coming back…argh!

    Hi,

    I don’t know how to do the other steps…not very technical…
    So I restored the last backup and got everything back but on the previous wordpress version…not ideal…
    I think the main problem is due to the plugin which I’m using for the post listing in categories (Advanced Most Recent Posts Mod) which has not been updated to be compatible with the most recent wordpress version…not sure if I have to wait for the plugin update to be available before update the wordpress version on my site…
    what do you think esmi, considering that I’m doing everything by myself and I’m not very techky?

    Try looking for a plugin that is compatible with WP 3.4. At the moment, your site is at a significant risk of being hacked.

    ok esmi, I’ve followed the process again:
    – disinstalled all the plugins
    – updated the wordpress version and noticed that the posts are not appearing in the categories (only the most recent one is appearing)
    – reinstalled all the plugins (no changes)
    – changed to the twenty eleven but still the categories show only the most recent post

    I don’t know how to do the third step you suggested…
    Is there anything else I should look at?

    Did you try resetting the plugins folder (see link above)?

    Esmiiiii! It works now!
    All plugins put on hold from cpanel and back in again and now they work fine.
