only one set, once add more stops working

I set one up on my first ever new WP website, it worked, brilliant, so I added a seperate side bar, looking good, when you click pages it says what page has what side bar, fantasic, like it, however, clicked view site and it was defaluting back to the default on all pages, help!!! I started again and had just one side bar other than default, it worked fine, again I added a second and it stopped working again defaulting back to the default sidebar, have you come accross this, is it me being new to WP or a conflict with my chosen ‘Responsive’ theme??
