@esmi What would the wp_user table have to do with administrator permissions? I thought that was all stored in wp_usermeta?

Because you need to see if the total number of users in the users table matches that in your site’s back end.

@esmi, checked there, 802 results, and in the WP dashboard, there are 819 users. What does that mean?

Something is seriously wrong somewhere. Do you have any recent database backups that you could look at?

@esmi nothing’s changed. I’ve looked at backups going back a year.

Do you have a user id in the wp_usermeta table for the “extra” admin?

Was your site ever hacked?

@esmi Yes, but this has been happening before the site was hacked.

When was the site hacked? What version of WordPress were you using?

@esmi The site was hacked running 3.2.1 and it happened a month ago. (It is running 3.4.2 now) But this two administrator issue has been going on ever since I first saw the site (over 6 months ago).

I think the other admin was added whilst the site was running WP 3.2.1
