oops – repeat – sort of – 3 column design ?

Hello,

I received some good advice about 3 column themes – start with 3 column themes. I did the search, but can’t seem to confirm that the several I selected will work, and the guidance is thin (at least for me)

I am looking for a theme – with very little style frills (somewhat like German Newspaper, or clear line or GreenPoint Millanda, etc.)

I need a header that is dividable (two ears), a thin sub header for navigation, a thin column on the left, a central wide column, a right column about twice the width of the left column.

Some themes, which appear to be three columns really are just two because there is an image and text – in one column. Is that really two columns?

Some three column themes have two thin columns ganged together at one side and one wide column, or three columns of equal width

I can’t seem to see where the themes state that each column width is variable. The most I find is that the entire page is variable.

Obviously, I am not looking at the right info.

Suggestions would be appreciated.
