• Seems like it would be so easy, adding a checkbox in the INSERT LINK dialogue box so that that target="_blank" would automatically be written into the page. I loathe losing an audience so easily, or forcing people to backtrack.

  • Don’t you have a target drop-down when you click the hyperlink icon? If you really wanted to, you could edit the code to make the new window the default…I done it before, but without digging in the code, can’t remember exactly where…I seem to remember the tweak would need to be done in the kses.php file.

Huh? There’s no such icon, only an underlined trigger for the dialogue box that pops up with a blank for the URL. No target drop-down at all. Please, WordPress. It’s annoying as hell to have to manually type in target="_blank" with each and every link.

    Okay, I have the solution.

You need to insert your file, like a pdf, on the page and then you select the pdf title and click on “Link Icon”. You will be able to select dropdown option to open in a new window.
