    In the General settings there is an option for “Open links in a new window”

    I wanted to ask will this also apply that to adsense ad clicks? Because for some reason adsense doesnt generally like their ads to be opened in new windows.

    Also in this context is opening the ad target in a new tab seen as the same as opening in a new window?

    Thanks for reaching out.

    It applies to all programmatically created ads by adding ?target="_blank"to the link. I just checked this for image ads created with Advanced Ads.

    AdSense’s ads work differently, by adding the code snippet to your website though Advanced Ads, Google will load the complete ad contend afterwards. They decide about the content, the clickable elements and how these react to a users’ action.

    Also in this context is opening the ad target in a new tab seen as the same as opening in a new window?

    The answer to this question is: It depends. Different browsers might interpret the target="_blank" element differently, some opening a new tab, while others still use the “old” method by creating a new window for each “tab”. This also variated from mobile to desktop devices, browser settings, and the options to use right-click to open links in new tabs or windows.

    The checkbox to enable the feature globally is located at Advanced Ads > Settings > General > Layout / Output
