Open links in new tab

I doubt that you really want all your links to open a new tab, but it is up to you. This doc tells you how to use the target attribute of links to do this:

Most likely you will have to customise page templates in your child theme.

Correct not all the links but just the ones that link to external sites / documents.
In the WP editor there is an option to create a link that opens in a new tab. This used to work and now does not. Even editing the html code and putting target_blank has no effect. I know this is not XHTML compliant but thought I would try.
They used to word I had not changed anything on the main page but now they no longer work as expected.

This should open the link in another tab. Itdoes not. Is there something I am missing. are there any WP setting plugins that could prevent this.

Works from the message therefore must be something in my set up that is preventing this from functionong correctly

Try it from a different browser, from a different computer.

I’m experiencing the same issue with a WordPress site (running 5.7) using the Ascend theme. The front page slider has the correct box checked for “open in new tab” for the links and they don’t open in a new tab. I’ve tried PC with Chrome and Firefox. I’ve also tried an Ipad using Chrome. I’ve edited the page to see if refreshing would help, but no love. I see in the past there has been a WordPress bug concerning this. I will be looking at plugins next, but my plugins and theme are all up-to-date.
