    Hello,

thank you very much for the plugin I have been using for years! Today I found out that the old download shortcuts did not work anymore and I upgraded the plugin. Everything seems OK except one detail I would like to ask you for.

In the old versions there was a possibility to open the linked file in a separate blank page. That was very useful. I set it somehow in the settings or template (I could not find that file anymore, after many years of the automated use) and that was an option by default.

What I have trouble with now is that I cannot find at all a possibility to make it work in the newer version. I manually set the “Redirect to file” flag to my old downloads and it let me open files in the window, instead of downloading obsolete pages to my desktop. That’s great.

But how may I get a linked file to open in a new blank page manually or with a default option? I tried to add target=”_blank” in the url line of the downloads. That gave nothing. I tried to play with options in the Settings page of the plugin. Did get neither any effect.

I am sure you did not delete such a useful option in the newer and more versatile version of the plugin. Could you please tell me how to reactivate it.

    Thank you in advance

  • i have the same problem and I am expecting for solution.

    Hello,

When you upload a file using our plugin, it’s uploaded to a secure folder “dlm_uploads”. This is to ensure that the users can’t directly access these files even if they get the URL of the file.

Due to the above, if you want to open a file in a browser (like a PDF) instead of downloading it, you will need to upload it using the “Media” menu in WordPress and then copy the URL and add it to our plugins download. Only after this is done, you can set the “Redirect to File” option.

Also, to open a download in a new tab, you will need to either add the download link manually and use the “target” property or you can customize the plugin templates.

Thank you for your reply. I am still a kind of confused. Could you please specify where I may find a field to insert the “target” property? If I add it to the link field, that does not give a result. A screenshot would be a great help.

This was very helpful. I successfully uploaded a pdf to Download Monitor after first uploading it to the WP’s Media area. I can then open the pdf in a browser window. However, when I do this, I notice the URL is to the Media’s version of the file, not to the protected version. I believe this means (1) the URL can be copied and shared, and (2) the file can be indexed and therefor is not secure. Am I using Download Monitor correctly? Can I use Download Monitor to protect pdfs from being accessed by people who don’t have the password to my site? Thanks.
