    Hi,

I have just completed my first wordpress blog bolt-on to my main site:- https://www.hijamalondon.com/Blog

I wish to know if there is a simple way of adding some sort of navigation or button to close a picture selected in a blog, without having to click the back button in the browser.

ie. I go to blog, I click on a post, click on photo, and it fills the screen with no controls whatsoever. Facebook/G+ & Pinterest provide an X in the corner of the pic, to enable you to close the pic and go back to the post.

    I hope you can help.

    Regards,

    Rashid

    Rashid,

If you set the post images as “Featured Images”, they will appear above the title, and take visitors to the post when clicked on, rather than to the image’s URL. Check out our demo as an example.

To add a Featured Image to a post:

    1. Go to Posts
    2. Click on the post you want to add a Featured Image to
    3. Locate the “Featured Image” box on the right side of the screen
    4. Click on the “Set Featured Image” link to choose your Featured Image
    5. Use the media manager to pick one of your images, or upload a new one
    6. Click the “Set Featured Image” button in the bottom-right side of the screen
    7. Click the “Update” button at the top of the screen to update your post

You can repeat this for each post on your blog.

    Thanks buddy,
I’ve tried this, but to no avail.
My setup is behaving differently to your demo, as it now:-
Zooms into the picture & crops the top/bottom
No clicking option available on the piccie.
I have left the original pic in the post for you to compare the 2.

    Please see the post here:-

    Thank you

    Okay, I misunderstood a bit.

The “Featured Image” is clickable, but only on the Blog. It will always link to the post and be cropped like that.

The image that you have in your post (which is hilarious btw) has a few different link options you can choose from in the post editor. If you go to edit that post and click on the image, you’ll see a pencil icon. Click on the pencil icon, and you’ll see a few different options for editing the image. One of them is called “Link to”, and should say “Media File”. If you change it from “Media File” to “Attachment Page”, it will link to its own page on your site instead of a page with just the image.

If you want the image to display without sending the visitor to another page, this will require a plugin to add that functionality. This type of functionality is commonly referred to as a “lightbox”. That keyword should help you find the right plugin for your site.
